Archery Courses

It is generally accepted that beginners to archery will take their introduction

course at their nearest archery club so that if they decide to take up this

great sport they will join the club which gave them their initial instruction.

If you would like to find your local archery club to book an "Introduction Course" for beginners, just visit the Essex and Suffolk County Archery Association's website at www.ecaa.org.uk

At the top of the HOME page click on CLUBS.  A list of all archery clubs will be revealed with their contact details.  However, if you reside within easy reach of Ingatestone, and are above the age of 10, then you might like to approach us.  Please tell us where you live, your age (if under 18) and what your interest is

(see below for details)

The Pilgrim Archers "Introduction to Archery" Courses for 2017

Our first Introduction to Archery Courses commences on 30th April, 2017.  If you live within easy reach of Ingatestone and wish to have your name placed on our waiting list for our second course in 2017 please send us an email giving your details and town of residence.  Details are as follows:-

Our “Introduction to Archery Course” for beginners costs £70 which includes tuition, use of club equipment, a significant insurance cover by Archery GB (the National Governing Body) and a club Manual.  The course takes approximately 12 hours run over  4 x 3 hourly sessions on Sunday mornings, dependant on how long each session takes as it varies from person to person according to how much time is available, and the weather, of course!

For insurance purposes, shooting cannot commence until fees are paid.  Cheques should be made payable to THE PILGRIM ARCHERS.  Cash is also acceptable.

We do not have a junior section in the club nor do we train juniors under the age of 10. To comply with the Child Protection Act, juniors should always be accompanied by a parent or a nominated guardian.

After completing our Course, should you find you are “hooked”, perhaps we can “reel you in” by offering 3 months provisional membership with the club.  At this time you would be required to become affiliated to the National, Regional and County governing bodies at their current fees and also pay half year of the club’s current annual affiliation fee.

Now for a little more information about our club;

Our venue is at Ingatestone, CM4 0DJ and, during what we term our “winter season” we shoot OUTDOORS only on Sunday mornings from 10.30 am.  However, as we always enter an Essex postal league, we shoot in a Sports Hall on eight or nine Sunday mornings, assembling at 9.30 am to set up the targets and backstop netting. However, to cover the cost of hiring the Sports Hall, members choosing to shoot in the Sports Hall are required to pay an additional fee, currently £5 per session.

Our "summer season" starts at about mid-April when the evenings become lighter.  Then we can shoot on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 pm until dusk.  In addition we shoot outdoors on Sundays from 10 am.  During the summer Sundays members can elect to spend whatever amount of time they wish and can shoot whatever round and distances they wish, provided they abide by our safety rules.

We have quite a varied diary of events between April to  October, many of which are based on handicaps to give new members a fair chance to win a medal or trophy.

For those interested people who have already contacted me about our next course, I will email an application form and full details as soon as dates are known.  I will also keep our website up to date.
